Imagine trying to feel peace after a tumultuous relationship. Either you have moved on with someone new or you’re enjoying the single life in an effort to heal before you head back into love again. And out of nowhere, the phone rings; and everything you’ve worked to heal is undone all over again.

On the other hand, imagine mustering up the courage to finally reach out and talk to your significant other to make amends. In your heart you realize that you still have feelings for them, and although you may not think you’ll go back to the way things were, you at least want to get to a place where you both exist in each other’s lives in a way that is not toxic or combative, regardless of who is to blame. But then you call, and you call, and you call again. It’s then you realize that it’s truly over.

Being on either side is a vulnerable place that many of us have experienced before. For some, moving on is easy, but for others, myself included, putting your heart out for someone for so long only for it to end is a terrifying and at times dangerous experience.
